There will be a bidding war between manufacturers if that's the case. With the patents whoever owns this will be able to control prices. Not sure how that will work. If this is required technology for school buses hypothetically but Ford owns them and blocks other companies from having it then what happens? Just thinking about scenarios. Who knows?
