And Intel one sad one. There isn't any goods news for Itanium in such a scenario.
There is nothing about this rumour that isn't good news for Intel and IPF. If true it shows IBM is starting to hedge its bets and possibly even laying the ground work for a house MPU exit strategy. Even if IBM just wants cheap motherboards boards for POWER7 or a variant thereof it will unsettle its customer base which will question IBM's long term ability to stand alone against Intel and its IPF allies in the non-x86 segment. In contrast, any potential extra market for AMD processors is very limited.
IMO it is just another example of the lessor MPU players huddling together for self-protection as the industry moves one step closer to the "highlander scenario" end game.
