Same principal as I've experienced with drones. Both RC and GPS. I can program a search pattern based on GPS or control the unit manually based on camera feed. The accuracy on the drones was not great, but it had few obstacle's while in flight. Set a search pattern and watch the feed. See something of interest, take control and investigate closer.
With a bot, you would want gps accuracy to within a foot, if not inches. That tech is out there. The bots could be automated and utilize existing tech like motion detection, infrared and sound sensors. Operator sets route and alarm parameters and monitors units.
There is all kinds of tech out there. Just need to put together software and hardware and produce an extremely reliable product.
