I don't agree with your assumption at all. There are some specialty funds that explore the scientific value of the pharma/bio sector (ETF's, Baker Bros etc) but for the most part the large institutional's own broad path's of equities.

Is there a stock Fidelity or Vanguard doesn't own?

I feel large institutional ownership is a negative because they head for the exits well before you or I can.
