Steve, the evidence that HFT algos caused the flash crash is simply the mechanics of how it happened. That's all I can tell you. It could not happen by traders making conscious decisions to enter that many sell orders that quickly. Not to mention that they had no reason to all sell, based on good news. Of course the HFT triggered stop losses but the stop losses got triggered by the algo attack.
