Unfortunately even modern 3-D seismic doesn't have the resolution or the ability to tell the difference between water filed sand and oil filed sand, or the porosity of it. or even if it is for sure sand. Without a nearby well to match the strata up with (the Sabu well was not close enough) they are really guessing based on different shades that different strata bounce back. All they are really seeing is that there is a difference to either more dense or less dense. The Sabu well showed that oil had moved through the area though they didn't know how much. They were assuming it settled in the targeted area of the Fatala. It looked good and looked as though there was a seal over a nice deep channel. They were wrong.
That 5 meters they are talking about now would barely show up in seismic if even at all. It may look like a very thin line of something.
