I used to do this when I was in my early twenties, convert old factories into new production. The Trinity plant in Clinton, IL for example that produces structural towers for windmills was a rail car plant under Thrall before Trinity bought it. Took about 60 days for a Total overhaul, including reinventing the assembly process because of different state laws, installing a paint facility and the rolling and welding process. This was a renovation for a totally different product. If the plant is already producing a similar style or class of product then a changeover can be completed in as little as the same day (Chinese facilities accomplish this all the time) or as long as 30 days (new machines ordered, delivered, installed and tested). So not very long at all, which is certainly part of the decision process
