hookrider, the article feels irrelevant to the fact that the Confederate Battle Flag represents the heritage of a group of states that started a war to break the Union of the USA by force, and to the fact that a white supremacist attitude was given, in the very least, as one chief reason by secessionist states for starting that war by force.
The fact, assuming it's true, the KKK has used the Stars and Stripes more makes no difference to the nature of the KKK, nor to what the Stars and Stripes is held by so many to represent.
