I don't know about the On4 driving app but the Waze app asks you if you are driving or a passenger. I believe the On4 app can be disabled but it alerts when you do. This On4 app may have the same functionality.

You download the APP on your phone.

The hardware in the car and your phone talk to each other.

That's how I understand it.

You know the APP WAZE? That APP knows if the phone is in drivers seat somehow.

I've tried inputting destinations while car is moving and it wouldn't let me without navigating away first.

Had to give my phone to passenger to use.

WAZE was bought out by GOOGLE for over $1B in 2015.
