As for the needing a new motherboard, well for anyone deciding between Ryzen and Coffeelake, that will be a complete non-issue, as Ryzen also requires a new motherboard.

That doesn't take into account the fact that the Coffeelake board will not be reusable with next gen. AMD has always had more platform continuity generation to generation. Hence the market fragmentation comment should be revised to "planned obsolescence".

With Intel the lack of value gets made up by pride of ownership. For some paying more is like getting the best, sometimes true, sometimes not. The only thing you know for sure, it will cost more now and later to own Intel. When up grading from coffeelake, plan on buying another mobo too. I told you so.
