Remember ID Biomedical around the turn of the century?
Friendofthedevil,
Not a chance in a billion my decaying brain will rot away enough to forget that killer vaccine outfit with a real twist.
For the unbelieving thrill seekers, IDBE was organized to develop and commercialize a Strep A vaccine whose testing had even been banned for some 20 years because it caused one of the deadliest diseases it was s'posed to prevent.
Never got her done but before this Rabelaisian outfit sold itself based on [yawn] 'nother flu vaccine, it's misadventures were the stuff of legend like the technology to prove hospitals were making its patients sicker because surgeons didn't wash their hands. As best I can recall, its total lifetime revenues from that blockbuster was $4K because hospitals didn't cotton much to telling patients it was the hospital that was killing them.
I really, really hoped that the vaccine would be brought to market because a brother-in-law managed to contract the extremely rare necrotizing fasciitis ["flesh-eating bacteria"] that terrorizes some 200 people a year in the U.S. with about 50% fatalities [from recall]. The vaccine would have prevented all the cases of the disease caused solely by common Strep A on steroids and probably most of the others with a mix of baddies gone presidential.
Want to know why I think any Dumbo swallowing ADXS will dumb down the huge platform for puny results?
- Because that's what they nearly always do. No better example than IDBE that had an array of technologies in development vastly exceeding those of even ADXS' enormous capability that included a true blue sky terrorist detection capability.
As far as anyone knows, all went the way of political promises.
Dumbos sell stock, gouge patients and governments, give monster rewards to worthless behind-licking executives who are mostly on the golf courses while their corporations try to sink off-shore shelters with the weight of loot when not buying politicians.
Development is most always done by the little people taking heat from the rabble.
More later, Friendofthedevil. My fingers are tired. :-)
