You are the one who is confused. AMD does it all the time. X2 5000+/5200+? 35W/65W desktop parts? All vapor. Oh, yes, I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find a couple of sites that offer these, but clearly not at the same volumes one comes to expect from the rest of AMD's product line (including the FX).

AMD will have quad core on the desktop eventually. They will need to respond to Kentsfield, and 4x4 is insufficient except for a small percentage of enthusiasts where power and cost don't matter (the same group who will likely get a pair of 250W ATI R600 GPUs). There's just little chance that they will have the volumes to ramp quad core to the level that Intel can next year.
