Makes alot of sense to me to let it go.

They didn't "let it go" as you suggest. It expired because they FAILED to file a complete report even after being told in April their previous reports were also incomplete. The BAR threw them a bone and they choked on it.

They tried since January to get a renewal.

They dont need that permit, there is no treasure there, why pay for it.

Is that why they tried to renew?
