Firefighting in the United States

As of 2014, there are around 1,134,400 firefighters serving in 27,198 fire departments nationwide and responding to emergencies from 58,150 fire stations. Of those firefighters, 31% or 346,150 were career firefighters and 69% or 788,250 were volunteers.

Firefighting in Canada

Ontario has 455 fire departments of which 227 are staffed by volunteers, 196 are composite, and only 32 are full-time. Composite departments have some full-time firefighters and a pool of volunteer firefighters on call for major emergencies.
In human numbers, the province has 19,363 volunteer, 11,318 full-time, and 274 part-time firefighters.
That’s just Ontario. Let’s not forget that The Canadian federation consists of ten provinces and three territories. Canada consists of 13 political divisions: 10 provinces and 3 territories. The territories are Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
