I believe North and CP discussed patents quite awhile ago. Consensus was that patents for drugs can be extended quite a bit as long as it hasn't been marketed and was under trials or development. The patent extensions are specifically for Pharms because getting drugs to market takes many years and a company would lose a lot of time on the patent to the point they could end up losing money due to generics pushed out once patents expire. I believe CP estimated patent on Bavi would extend out to at least 2035...at least that was my recollection.
