Knappogue Story and a hip, hip, hooray. My first pictures posted thanks to Johnny!!! See them below.

Thank you Johnny!

So here's the story.

My wife and I made a liquor run to Table & Vine in Massachusetts. We save big dollars, or more accurately, spend less.

We walk in and smack dab in front of us is a liquor display featuring Jefferson's Reserve Barrel Series and Ocean Voyage 9. On the bottom right is 12 year old Knappogue. The display is between the front door and cheese (with related foods) department right behind the display. Wines are to the right, liquors and beer are off to the left. (Both not visible in this photo)

The store was formerly a supermarket.

On our way home on the spur of the moment we decide to go out to dinner in our new local Italian Restaurant. It's 1.5 miles from home and on my regular bike route.

I had been watching the building renovations, and stopped in to introduce myself just after they opened. I wanted them to know that I hoped they would be successful.

So I met the owner, and made a reservation for that night. He said to ask for him when we get to dinner.

I'm lucky my wife enjoys eating dinner sitting at "the bar". The place was packed that night. They had one available little table for two tucked up against a wall. I refused it, she agreed, and I said "we'll sit at the bar. I see two seats."

We've returned to the restaurant several times. We always sit at the bar, and we've become somewhat friendly with the 2 owners. One is the chef (Mike) and his aunt (Laurie).

On one of those occasions, on their back bar, was a bottle of Jefferson's. I told Mike, "you really don't want to be serving the regular Jefferson's to "this crowd". You want to carry Jefferson's Reserve". The difference is like night and day." It's so much better."

On our next visit a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve was next to the regular. Naturally, even with my Jefferson's stash at home, I had two helpings of the Reserve to put a dent in the bottle.

Back to the Knappogue story.

So we're shopping in Table & Vine in the whiskey aisle. We come to an aisle's end. On the top shelf where it has always been displayed was the 12, 14 and 16 year old Knappogue.

The 16 year old was $100.

I finally decided to spend the money to buy and try it.

So we're sitting at the bar with drinks and menus. Mike sees us and comes over.

There's a little chit chat and then I mentioned to him that we just came back from a liquor run to Table & Vine and that I had a bottle of the 16 year old Knappogue Irish Whiskey in our trunk. I said I'll share it with you later if you want to try it. He said sure.

Laurie wasn't working last night. She was a customer with her husband and his parents. They were sitting at a table literally right behind us.

When I walked back into the restaurant with the Knappogue, the "uncle" turned to his wife and asked "what's that guy doing bringing in a bottle"? I didn't hear it, and she calmed him right down.

So Mike comes over. He opens the container it comes in, hands it to a pretty bartender who opens the bottle and pours us a handsome serving in nice whiskey glasses.

Mike's eyes widen and turn into golf balls. That's smooth. I like it. He takes his glass around the bar to the table with his aunt. She doesn't drink. Not a drop.

Mike hands the glass to his uncle. He loves it too.

With a few more glasses I pour the two men some more. Introductions were made all the way around, and they made the decision to bring carry it in the restaurant.

My wife tried it too. She doesn't drink whiskey. Her eyes opened up too. She liked it.

We put a good dent into the bottle. We had a lot of FUN.
