Actually, tons of free apps generates millions in revenues. Some to name...Facebook, twitter, Instagram, flappy bird was free and generates 50K a day through ads, candy crush, and much much more. There are ways to generate revenue and monetize free applications. I won't don't do your due diligence for you, feel free to google. Oh, and yes Google searches are free but generates billions in revenue.
