Then first the US Federal and State have to spend huge amount of money to build enough prisons. Due to the budget cut, plenty of states now have no choice but to release ahead of schedule of some violent criminals, so they definitely have NO place for debtors<g>
The debt problem in the US is NOT just with the household or individuals, it is also on every level of gov. and a lot of companies. This whole economy is built on a huge pile of debt!
Re bankruptcy reform ala-chapter 7 & 13. No need for debtors prisons. We already have an infrastructure in place to look after these wretched souls. It's called the Guest Worker Program, undocumented workers toiling for cash.<gg>
