An equity investor BUYS stock, usually at a significant discount.
A loan company loans money and if it's not paid back, gets cheap shares instead.
Equity investors do not NECESSARILY receive a new series - most often it is common stock with the time restriction on it. If you believe me wrong PROVE IT.
