stock splits do a couple of things. they try to get investors interested in buying both before and after the split. by splitting a stock they can dilute the shares and raise more money by adding to the number of shares and increase the number of holders. By owning the amount you currently have, the price will go down by third and the amount you own will triple. people are being enticed to grab shares at the new lower price and if the price goes up to the current levels or beyond you will see you gains triple as well. splits like this help the stocks and current shareholders....hope that answers your questions
