Profit margin is your Revenues of your goods sold - the cost to make those goods. Financial analysis differentiates between the 2.



What you're referring to is called gross income as differentiated from net income. Margin is the percent derived by dividing either gross income or net income by revenue to get either the gross margin or net margin. Look it up on investopedia.com if you don't believe me.
