Here's another data point for you. I found it when tracking down some unusual results in the nightly report.

There are 2,356 gaps in the message ID spread out over the past 10 days. The first one occurred immediately after this post on 9/07.

There should be 161,394 messages in the 10-day sample period but there are only 158,861 physical records. Most of the gaps are only one ID wide.
