Yes, usually that is the case, at least when you are in the middle of a run and trying to get the stock to move forward in the short term. Of course it means you are paying a bit more than you might otherwise.
If things are more quiet (not in the middle of a run) and you're taking a long position, then sometimes you can get a much better entry price if you sit at the bid and wait to get filled.
