Papermaster from AMD mentioned they had to do quad patterning at 7nm. I hadn't heard of that before. They also talked about the cost of the masks going way up. Process technology advances feel like they are going to be painful for everyone and the pace will be slowed. But it is so unlike Intel to have this much of a delay. Hopefully they will do an update on 10nm on the earnings call today.

I have to wonder why it's taking Intel so long to come out with 10nm. There has never been such a long time lag before. I suspect there is some new technology there but I really don't know.



First 10nm-parts are U- and Y-Processors.
Those are directly soldered to the PCB they are not for a socket.

I think first time ever we will see a new 10nm-processor inside a new product (and there will be a presentation of this product).
