I was a bit disappointed to read that it records only *with* the addition of a 3rd party adapter ($60-$70). So, what they are announcing is compatibility with these accessories.

It records the files in WAV, no choice of compression on the fly. Not sure how the competition stacks up, I read that one of them does compress on the fly, but you have no choice of the settings
