When I read this all I could think of initially was how much money is involved in Big Ten football. Too bad true academic ability isn't rewarded in kind. So it goes.
The last part of the article caught my interest re better security for the visiting teams fans. Unless things have changed radically, Michigan has a track record they can be proud of. Made me feel good.
Last game I saw live was the Wisconsin game about four years ago. I had breakfast in the Brown Jug and listened to banter going on between Michigan and Wisconsin tables. The three kids from Wisconsin had been up all night and were having a pitcher with breakfast (only the young). One of the Michigan fans asked them if they were having a good time. A Wisconsin guy said Yeah you guys are real hospitable. A second chimed in... "Except for the guy who dumped a beer on my head last night." <g>
We were seated in the third and fourth rows next to the tunnel on the Wisconsin side (fabulous seats) with a small sea of red behind us. Good natured ribbing throughout a very close game. We won by 3 points.
As the stands were clearing, I was setting up a group shot. One of the Wisconsin fans offered to take a picture with me in it. Another handed me a Wisconsin jacket and said, "You can stomp on it if you want. I smiled and held it up in front of me... Click. Nice shot.
Dang you must be excited... two weeks until kickoff. Bet you folks will be on TV... I suspect that Michigan's opener against Central Michigan is not going to make the airwaves... how the hell did we get that one?
BTW... are you sitting? I was pushing Penn State to an AVP at lunch this week. He lives in PA (we get a lot of commuters from your state.) His son is a high school senior looking at engineering programs. Doesn't want PSU because it is a state school. His father wants him there... damn fine education at a good price. I told him him to get the kid to a football game this fall. He'll be sold. <g>
