This what what I meant with buyback hints. I actually think he is correct that IF they had more cash in the future, it would be a good use of their cash. I do understand you point though, and should have been more clear what I disagreed with.

I don't think it was an inappropriate thing for him to say actually, only that it shouldn't be interpreted as a company buyback happening soon. Sacrificing cash reserves at this point on a buyback would be exceedingly reckless as one more season of bad weather could devastate the company.

I would like to have fewer shares outstanding and believe it could be a good use of our cash.

I think Chuck has potential to turn things around, and nothing I have seen so far has been a red flag from him to me, things like him revoking guidance was actually a positive for me in terms of building credibility. He seems aware of the rather precarious situation Nelson led the company to and has been much less reckless than Nelson in building up false expectations.

However, I do think part of the bull case for this company (and therefore part of the market cap) is still based around the "legacy" expectations that Nelson laid out. What I think investors should do is take every single thing that Nelson has ever said and assume it is (and in many cases was at the time) completely invalid.

The more distance between Nelson's BS and the present the better.

For instance the fed contracts hype, I believe, was simply a way to give a do-nothing job to a guy who lost money in the stock and threatened to make a stink about it. Really no evidence he ever did anything and then he quietly leaves.

The 10+ state national expansion seems to be mostly hype, really very little evidence that it is happening. Though the belief that it is lingers in the numeric signatures some investors use.

JN also talked a great game, had great charisma, etc. He was able to convince a lot of people that he and one other guy could take $1M and create a product that would upend the economics of energy. That takes talent of a certain kind. It took years of lousy performance for it to finally catch up to him.
