Don't think you can reduce cash because you have a common cash account. ALL stocks went down better than 50% in 2000 and 2008 . Everything I owned was screaming for me to buy. Except maybe bonds, which I did not own.

But if you don't sell options on ALL your shares, you should still have shares you can sell.
