I don't think that would work very well, because you would be buying it back up after all the asks cancel and sell to the bids. Unless you have guts and lots of cash.
It's less risky when the sentiment is positive rather than negative. I would rather sell my shares down on positive sentiment to get cash, rather than use my cash during negative sentiment to buy shares. IMO
