To over simplify this thought to a known American product look at Coleman camping products. You go out and buy all the camping stuff you need which is owned by Coleman and manufactured in China. Coleman still owns everything associated with that tent. Someone else made it to colemans specifications, so coleman could focus its resources on the next portion of their niche
