#183514 RE: scottsmith #183513

If you agree to the premise that Phase 1 is early, Phase 2 is mid and Phase 3 is late, what do you think K-OC and B-UP are?

My premise is that K and UP aren't mid stage trials. Where's the misrepresentation?

"My premise is that K and UP aren't mid stage trials."

Why?

They are not preclinical trials.
They are not Phase 1 safety trials.

Is it because they are small and unblinded?

Phase 1 = early stage
Phase 2 = mid stage
Phase 3 = late stage

Your misrepresentation is right there in the middle. A phase 2a is a phase 2 trial and therefore a mid stage trial.

The K and BUP trials are within the stage 2 boundaries and are thus part of a phase 2 trial to consider dosing ranges, safety at those ranges and efficacy. Anything done at that point is setting the stage for a Phase 3 trial design. Hence, phase 2 is mid-stage, comes after phase 1 and before a final phase 3.
