Not really true. Tesla is using backup batteries for commercial solar. 10 hours/10kw. And soon will be coming out with a residential version. Not cheap though.
Concerning the company, China is moving ahead of USA in better tech. Big difference is when the Chinese government wants something done, it gets done. Here, we have to spend millions researching and debating and discussing, etc. Over there what the gov. wants the gov. gets.
