I agree. They need to institute tighter controls and doubt checks to prevent these kinds of errors. I think it would be wise to always get a second opinion and second set of tests. What a nightmare. I was in the hospital once for pnuemonia and they discovered I was allergic to ampicillin. The very next night, the night nurse gave it to me again...

Oh man...

Horrible horror stories WTMH. I couldn't finish the article. My eyes are wet. The hell with the money. Death seems like an appropriate sentence... and let the patient do the honors.

My dad had rotator cuff surgery a couple of years ago and prior to the surgery the prep nurse had him draw a circle on the bad arm just to make sure they didn't operate on the wrong limb.

Sounds like this guy needed a do not remove sign.
