If they are lucky, the 2nd position slot can be quite profitable if they can take advantage of any negative feedback from the 1st position solution provider. This assumes they are within 6mo of the front runner. JMHO.
Secondly, I would like to point out that they will need to prove out the measurement algorithms and sensors prior to trying to productize the hardware. With that in mind, I would concur with 18 months to 2 years before true product launch.
