I'm sure it is just the beginning. The way this usually works is that the CEO's of these big companies see the slow down coming far in advance of the short-sighted economists/elites that think the business cycle will continue running forever, unfortunately it won't.

Let's see if the lay-off's continue to snowball going forward. I believe they will.
