Didn't the Rockefeller's make their billions refining?

I was under the assumption that MMEX was going to refine oil from others. There are not going to drill/frac for their own oil. They are providing a service for others in the area.

As far as land goes they are buying the surface rights not the mineral rights.

Is this correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
