yes, it is really a myth. MMs can pick up the phone and not telegraph moves. But some traders actually buy/sell 911 or some other (coded) # of shares at a loss to fool traders into believing an MM is in trouble to encourage them to buy or whatever. Kind of funny. I guess it works sometimes.
