It costs them nothing to leave the marker in the account.

Except all of the statements on accounts that they have to generate if a position in Foilhat Financial Group is the only position. And all of the customer service calls from true believers in Foilhat Financial Group, bending customer service rep's ears about the ENSSFM and sucking their time away from profitable customers.

TOTALLY WRONG

These massive databases grow and grow. The cost of keeping old dead data alive is expensive and requires constant maintenance (compacting databases, adding more storage as data grows, replacing worn equipment, paying for electricity to run servers, paying for utilities to keep servers cold, the labor costs to do all this stuff, etc.. etc.. etc.
