I agree with your line of reasoning, it makes a lot of sense. It also means that Bryostatin would be a hospice drug with a limited market.

People who are in hospice get access to opioids without regard to addictive qualities for this same reason.

First of all there have been long term studies of Bryostatin in cancer patients for up to two years at higher doses. So that coupled with the issues you raised would IMO allow the FDA to approve the trials and extension of the 2b as open label.
