Holding companies will be their own entity but have capital interest in other companies. A holding company will leverage capital to purchase other companies and bring them under their umbrella. This helps the overall group hedge risk. Example would be Johnson & Johnson. They own individual companies and if one goes under the rest are protected so to speak. At least that is how I interpret it
