I only just learned the term "risk corridors." It makes sense. If the government requires insurance companies to cover all comers, include specific essential coverage, and without lifetime limits, the only way a for profit entity can survive is through subsidies. It may not be sustainable - the government subsidizing corporations whose fundamental purpose is to make a profit. (We'll just ignore the oil industry for the moment.) This makes NO sense in the long run.

Ultimately, the only rational solution is the one the civilized countries of the world* have already come round to: single payer.

It is well past time to remove the one non-essential "health" service in the loop, the one driven not by concern for the patient's wellbeing, but purely for profit: insurance.

GET THE INSURANCE BUSINESS OUT OF HEALTHCARE.


*Unfortunately, since Turmp was elected, I can no longer include the USA among the civilized countries of the world. Sad.
