I've been involved with other companies that have worked on orphan drugs. The trials were somewhat smaller, but the costs and time were still pretty high. The FDA was still tough on approvals, and additional testing was required and is ongoing in at least one case, others failed.

My point is that orphan status is far from a sure thing.
