I can't really know why this attempt rather than bid sit. All I know is usually market makers make random calls to the CEO or investor relations of a publicly traded company and ask them why there stock has been having activity and do they plan issuing a press release anytime soon about filings. So, essentially what I am trying to say is, market makers usually know the news before the news actually hits the wires, at least they have sense of what is happening behind scenes. That could have very well be a market maker short covering because they know with news this thing will fly.
