Thanks for the clarification. In my experience, the DO backhaul is robust enough to allow full and extended web surfing from a WLAN consisting of up to 4 connected laptops. Is it sufficient to handle many more than that without degrading the individual user experience? can it supply multiple WLANs within the same cell? I don't know the answers to those questions. Do you? Otherwise, we'll find out soon enough, i suppose.

I do know that I've seen 5 laptops side-by-side, ALL connected to via individual DO modems, and ALL downloading continuously at average speeds of 600 kbps. So DO can definitely support multiple users per cell...

You may argue that better technologies are on the way. I have no doubt of that. But for now, I don't see why DO won't be adequate for supplying LANs of the type that are currently in discussion and in deomonstration.
