purported??? First, you have no idea how much the EDIG device will cache becaue the product is not on the market (even though it was announced 3 years ago).
The Archos device is limited to 30 seconds because it is a portable device and has limited storage, the cache would be limited by what is practical with the storage. It is designed to allow you to capture a song after it has started (you don't know the song is coming on until it starts) so you do not have to leave it on "record" all the time. You would quickly run out of space. It is not designed to capture a song you were not listening to at the beginning.
You seemed confused by what having 5 minutes cached actually does for you. If you were not listening to the song when it started, you will not be able to record it. Did you think it monitors every FM station and records the last 5 minutes waiting for you to make a selection? What do you suppose would happen if you came in 5 minutes into a 4 minute song?? Think about it for a minute.
