First of all there isn't a place where you can sign up for company news. Even if there was, most people wouldn't know about it.
Social media is different. We are not talking a select group of investors here because anyone can access it. The company still has to inform the shareholders beforehand that they may disclose material information on such a medium. As Chad has done for his company for instance by disclosing it in basically every press release.
