The cost of research & development, equipment plus lawyer fees that went into all those utility patents was most likely in the tens of millions

None of that matters if the company is facing bankruptcy.

Yes because they had no choice. They didn't pay their debts and the creditors acted within their rights to sell assets. That's why after more than 8 years there has been no new info from the company. It's common sense.
