I follow that logic quite well. You could tell one of these patients they are part of a trial and that information will not be retained. Remember the "one back" test? These patients don't do well on that test. If a patient improves to the point where the information is retained they are probably not on placebo anyway.

Where does it say that they would not be told, in signing up for the trial their guardian has to sign if they are deemed not competent to sign up. There is not any reason not to tell them they are getting a treatment, the issue is when and if they remember they are getting a treatment.

Xena, if I was a legal guardian for an advanced AD patient and they improved to the point of competency I would surly tell them that their improvement was the result of an experimental drug administered under my authority.

Would that mean there was a placebo effect. No, they would have been helped by the treatment before they knew they had received it.
Simple logic...
