It's hard to cipher that as written.

It seems like you are saying: 'A bad assay on the core would have been very bad for NAK, therefore they forgave the loan in order to get control of the core and prevent the release of assay results'.

I suppose that is possible, but I don't buy (no pun) it. More plausible to me is that they liked what they saw and forgiving the loan was an ounce of quick easy prevention for future headaches from interlopers, not controlling the larger area, and so forth - they had a lot of leverage.
