In the case reported in your link the company had an IR plan and reported out properly. As the case wound through the court the stock price rose accordingly. Shareholders were able to liquidate. This case also had its moments as they won in court, it was appealed and overturned and I'm not sure where it is now.
With VPLM they have followed the IPR route which was set up to avoid lengthy and expensive trials. And VPLM is not very forthcoming with news. However today after fumbling through the latest submission to the USPTO, and the "maybe" that Europe will allow the patent, this stock could get interesting. Just my opinion.
